What's new in ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b?

ArcView GIS Version 3.1 supports shape files with measures and z values.  The ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b has been updated to recognize these new shape file formats and to work with them just like regular shape files.

An issue related to using the ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b with ARC/INFO coverages has been fixed.  The FNODE_/TNODE_ fields in ARC/INFO coverages were incorrectly used in some cases.  Instead, they should be used as FNODE#/TNODE# fields.  ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b will automatically recognize and interpret the FNODE_/TNODE_ as FNODE#/TNODE# fields.

Installing ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b

ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b is designed to work with ArcView GIS Version 3.1.  Do not install this version of ArcView Network Analyst on any other version of ArcView GIS.  The following steps describe how to install ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b for ArcView GIS Version 3.1.

1. Insert the ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.

2. Become root user (excluding Solaris 2.x and IRIX 6.x):

% su

You will be prompted for your root user password.  If you do not know this password, contact your system administrator.

3. If a "cdrom" directory does not exist, create it using the following command:

# mkdir /cdrom

4. To mount the ArcView Network Analyst CD-ROM, use one of the following for your installation platform (where <dev> stands for the CD-ROM device):

Compaq's Digital UNIX    mount -t cdfs -r -o nodefperm,rrip /<dev>  /cdrom
HP 9000/700                      mount -F cdfs -r /<dev>  /cdrom  (or use sam)
IBM RS/6000                    mount -v 'cdrfs' -p'' -r'' /<dev>  /cdrom  (or use smit)
SGI                                   IRIX 6.x automatically mounts the CD-ROM as  /CDROM.
Solaris 2.x                         Includes the Volume ManagementTM software that automatically
mounts the CD-ROM, providing immediate access to your CD-ROM

5. Once the ArcView Network Analyst CD-ROM is mounted, exit root user mode:

# exit

6. Before starting the ArcView Network Analyst CD-ROM installation, go to where your arcview3 directory is located:

% cd $AVHOME
% cd ..

Note:    You will need to have write permission to your $AVHOME directory. For more information about the $AVHOME directory, please refer to the ArcView GIS Installation Guide (av31install.html) located in your $AVHOME/avdocs directory.

7. To start the installation for the ArcView Network Analyst and tutorial data, type one of the following for your installation platform:

Compaq's Digital UNIX    /cdrom/network_31/osf/install -load
HP 9000/700                     /cdrom/network_31/hpux/install -load
IBM RS/6000                   /cdrom/network_31/ibm/install -load
SGI                                  /CDROM/network_31/sgi/install -load
Solaris 2.x                        /cdrom/cdrom0/network_31/solaris/install -load

This starts the dialog for the menu-driven installation procedure. Default selections are noted in brackets [ ]. To obtain a list of options or online help, type "?" at any prompt. You can quit the installation procedure at any time by typing quit or "q". To return to a previous question, type a caret, "^".

Do not accept the default CD-ROM mount point when installing ArcView Network Analyst.  Instead, the CD-ROM mount point should read as follows:

/cdrom/network_31/<platform>
/cdrom/cdrom0/network_31/solaris (Solaris 2.x only)

Note:    The path name you specify as the ArcView Network Analyst installation directory should be the same as the path for your arcview3 directory and can't contain any uppercase letters.

The "install" command has five options from which to select:
Usage: install <-help | -load | -remove | -verify | -lmhostid>.

Use the  "-help" option to read more about the installation procedure.

To obtain a Network Analyst feature line for your existing license file

ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0a users:
ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b will work with ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0/1.0a keycodes.  If your current license file includes a feature line for ArcView Network Analyst extension, you do not need to obtain a new license file.

ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0b is a keycoded software.  To obtain an updated license file or a Network Analyst feature line for your existing license file, you will need to provide ESRI or your distributor, the hostname and FLEXlm hostid of each workstation or server that will be running the license manager.

1. The hostname is obtained with the command:

% hostname

2. The FLEXlm hostid is obtained with the command:

% $AVHOME/sysgen/lmutil lmhostid

In the United States

1. Complete the keycode request form included in your installation package. Appendix A of the License Manager's Guide also contains a keycode request form and two examples on how to fill out this form.  A digital copy of the keycode request form can also be found under the ArcView GIS Version 3.1 online help.  Select the help Index tab and type the word “keycodes.”  Click on the “request forms” index entry.  Keycode Support will also send, upon request, a keycode request form by E-mail.

Updating the license file

ArcView Network Analyst Version 1.0a users:
If your current license file includes a feature line for ArcView Network Analyst extension, you do not need to update the license file.

Once you have received the license file for your site, append the ArcView Network Analyst feature line to your $AVHOME/sysgen/license.dat. You must enter the file exactly as it appears; the license file is case-sensitive. Use the ADMINLICENSE command to check and verify your license file for errors. ADMINLICENSE must be run from within your window manager. Keep a copy of the license file you received from ESRI for future reference.

% cd $AVHOME/sysgen
% ./adminlicense

Once you have updated the license.dat file with the new feature line, update the daemons.

% $AVHOME/sysgen/lmutil lmreread -c $AVHOME/sysgen/license.dat
