The Summer Institute team projects encouraged student participation and drew upon their creativity and imagination. The projects provided a window to the world of high-performance computing and were designed to demonstrate the challenges that many users encounter. Each project required a number of students ("scientists/ engineers") to understand the problem, write the computer program(s), and visualize the results. Each SI student participated in a team project. The number of students in a group varied between three and four. The students selected their own teams, elected a project leader, and chose a project.
