Environmental Watershed Science
Ohio Supercomputer Center • Columbus, Ohio
July 27 – August 2, 2008

Students will take a field trip to a national scenic river, where they will measure the waters for various chemical properties and test for environmental impacts. Students will examine first-hand the human impacts on biological systems and the importance of habitat to the systems’ survival. They will then travel to the Ohio State University’s Columbus campus where they will learn to use computers to analyze their data and compare their results to federal EPA data to determine the health of the river. Later, the Ohio EPA will incorporate these results into ongoing studies. Finally, students will be trained in the fundamentals of computer presentations and hear from prominent women about their exciting careers in math and science. Most importantly, students will discover that science can be fun and exciting!
