Student Information

To bolster women’s participation in science, engineering and technology, Young Women’s Summer Institute (YWSI) gives middle-school girls a hands-on introduction to career options and job opportunities in fields guaranteed to be challenging and rewarding well into the future.

Side-by-side, institute participants will analyze water samples as they stand knee-deep in a stream, learn from expert instructors and accomplished role models, and evaluate their results on advanced computer systems. Students will spend time throughout the week visiting a national scenic river, studying an internationally respected supercomputer center, and living on the campus of one of the world’s great research universities. YWSI participants will gain a wide variety of valuable skills, professional insights, lasting friendships and cherished memories.

Who can apply:

“I like YWSI because it helped me learn a lot more in depth about science. Science at school is not like this I wish it really could be. I think this because I really want to go into a math and science field. ”
