Leslie Southern
Director of Education and Workforce Development
Leslie Southern serves as the director of education and workforce development at the Ohio Supercomputer Center. In this role, she develops and implements long- and short-term plans for computational science education and training.
Southern oversees the progress and organization of materials for computational science and Blue Collar Computing initiatives, towards the goal of improving workforce development. Southern builds Center relationships with state, national and international faculty and peers. She has led training activities for the Partnerships of Advanced Computational Services. One of the biggest successes of the collaboration was an on-line MPI course that reached more than 20,000 students. She has also collaborated with academic and government personnel on Department of Defense Modernization Office activities.
Leslie has more than 20 years of experience in high performance computing initiatives. She has lead client support activities and systems operations. Before joining OSC, Southern worked as a software engineer for the Battelle Project Management Division. In this role, she provided software engineering quality control for the Office of Nuclear Isolation.
Southern received a bachelor’s degree in math from West Liberty State, located in West Liberty, W. Va., where she also minored in physics.
