Summary
Large-scale parallel computations in condensed matter physics, surface physics, atomic physics, and astrophysics. The results derived from the first cluster awarded to this group include: developing and implementing efficient parallel algorithms to simulate nanomachining, thin-film grown and non-equilibrium processes, plasma dynamics and radiation transfer; MPI-based parallel codes to carry out large-scale parallel computations in condensed matter physics and astrophysics; signed on 15 research users in the UTL community to use cluster for other projects (2,000 jobs submitted to the cluster in the past year), to the point of saturation. Large machine will be used for larger-scale production runs and research projects; smaller, older cluster for algorithm development and testing, teaching and training in parallel computing.
