Rescentris CERF (Collaborative Electronic Research Framework) 2.3

Rescentris CERF Software Install and Startup Instructions

Windows 2000/XP Instructions:

  • Administrative system access is required to install the CERF client.
  • Antiviral software and related firewalls should be turned off during the CERF download since they may interfere with the process.
  1. Download the Windows 2000/XP install file.
  2. Save the file onto your desktop.
  3. Double click on install.exe, which will start the InstallAnywhere Self Extractor program.
  4. The Rescentris Workplace panel should appear.
  5. Click “Next”.
  6. Accept the license agreement terms and click “Next”.
  7. Accept the suggested install location or choose another and click “Next”.
  8. Choose the appropriate Java VM selection for your system and click “Next”.
  9. Review the Pre-Installation Summary and click “Install”.
  10. If your installation is interrupted by an ”DirectX end-user run time error“ at this stage of the install you should check to confirm that you have applied the Microsoft Windows “DirectX end-user run time“ patch available at: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com before the installation can be completed. When the install is complete click “Done”.

CERF Startup and Login Instructions for Windows

  1. On the desktop navigate to the CERF software using this path:
    Start \ Programs\Rescentris \ Rescentris Workspace \ CERF
  2. The CERF client software will present a panel that asks you to create your user profile by entering your profile name in the profile field. After entering your profile name click “Ok”.
  3. After clicking “Ok”, on some systems, an Adobe PDF Quick-start file may begin to load. After the PDF loads minimize it so you can continue your client setup procedure. The PDF is a valuable reference tool, however it is not required to complete the setup for your login. The CERF User Manual is available under “Help” on the Rescentris CERF toolbar.
  4. Click “Add Server” in the CERF login panel to proceed.
  5. Enter the CERF server IP address: cerf1.sf.osc.edu and server port 8080.
  6. Click “Load”.
  7. Your CERF client software should confirm access to:
    cerf1.sf.osc.edu
  8. Click “Ok”.
  9. Enter your user name and password. Save it and make a note of it.
  10. After the CERF client accepts your login you should be able to navigate and work in the Rescentris CERF environment.

Mac OS X Instructions:

  • Administrative system access is required to install the CERF client.
  • Antiviral software and related firewalls should be turned off during the CERF download since they may interfere with the process.
  1. Download the Mac OS X install file.
  2. Save the file onto your desktop.
  3. Double click the “install” icon to start the InstallAnywhere program.
  4. The Rescentris Workplace panel should appear. Click Next.
  5. Accept the license agreement terms and click Next.
  6. Choose a location on your system to put CERF and click Next.
    (Applications is recommended)
  7. Review the Pre-Installation Summary and click Install.
  8. When the Install Complete panel appears click Done to close out of the install program and put a CERF icon on your desktop.

CERF Startup and Login Instructions for Mac OS X

  1. Double click the CERF icon on the desktop.
  2. The CERF client software will present a panel that asks you to create your user profile by entering your profile name in the profile field. After entering your profile name click “Ok”.
  3. Click “Add Server” in the CERF login panel to proceed.
  4. Enter the CERF server IP address: cerf1.epn.osc.edu and server port 8080.
  5. Click “Load”.
  6. Your CERF client software should confirm access to:
    cerf1.sf.osc.edu
  7. Click “Ok”.
  8. Enter your user name and password provided by OSC.
  9. After the CERF client accepts your login you should be able to navigate and work in the Rescentris CERF environment.

Linux Instructions:

  • Download the Linux install file.
  • Open a shell and, cd to the directory where you downloaded the installer.
  • At the prompt type: sh ./install.bin
    Notes: A Java virtual machine is included with this download. It will be run automatically when you run the shell script.
