Introduction to Bioinformatics Tools at OSC
Description:
- This course is intended to provide a multi-leveled introduction to the use of the bioinformatics resources presently available at OSC.
-
- The course is organized into two mini-sessions. The first session consists of an overview of desktop software and solutions available at or through OSC, including the eLabBook licensed for statewide use and portal accessible applications, such as BLAST, ClustalW, SmithWaterman, PAUP and others.

- The other session provides an introduction to more advanced features and capabilities in the currently accessible resources. This session focuses on capabilities and use of the TimeLogic DeCypher Genomic Accelerators, Cray bioinformatics libraries, portal applications and integration, use and access of databases loaded at OSC and more. The afternoon session will include hands-on opportunities and exercises involving these technologies.
Prerequisites:
- None. Knowledge of UNIX is helpful, but not necessary.
Target Audience:
- Current and prospective users of bioinformatics software, databases and resources at OSC.
Method of Delivery:
- Lecture with hands-on exercises.
