Using Glenn, the IBM Opteron 1350 at the Ohio Supercomputer Center

Description:

The purpose of this 2-day course is to show how to effectively use the Glenn Linux cluster at OSC. Users will learn to log onto the cluster, use the compilers, perform batch processing, and utilize the parallel programming facilities of the cluster. Topics covered will include:

  • Hardware Overview
  • The Linux Operating System
  • User Environment and Storage
  • Program Development Tools and Libraries
  • Batch Processing with TORQUE Resource Manager and Moab Scheduler
  • SMP Usage
  • Parallel Usage with MPI
  • Other Sources of Information

Target Audience

Those interested in using the Glenn Linux cluster at the Ohio Supercomputer Center

Prerequisites:

Familiarity with UNIX and either Fortran or C is preferred. Knowledge of a parallel programming method (MPI or OpenMP) is helpful but not necessary; however, only the specifics of using these parallel programming methods on the cluster will be covered.

Method of Delivery:

Lecture and hands-on laboratory.
