System Downtime August 18 2020

Date:
Tuesday, August 18, 2020 - 7:00am to 9:00pm
Location:

Ohio Supercomputer Center

Update at 5PM Tuesday, August 18, 2020:

Today's scheduled maintenance has finished. As a reminder Pitzer login nodes are available, but Pitzer is not running jobs until midday on August 20th so that we can complete the liquid cooling changes required to expand the size of the Pitzer cluster. The plumbing work is progressing swiftly. Access to MyOSC may be slightly delayed while we wait for the network redirects to clear; if you are being redirected to a downtime notice please try again later. We will send another message when Pitzer jobs have resumed.

Original Post:

A downtime for all OSC HPC systems is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2020. The downtime will affect the Pitzer, Ruby and Owens Clusters, web portals, state-wide licenses and HPC file servers. Login services will not be available during this time, including MyOSC.

In preparation for the downtime, the batch scheduler will begin holding jobs that cannot be completed before 7 a.m., August 18, 2020. Jobs that are not started will be held until after the downtime and then started once the system is returned to production status.

Highlights of the downtime activities include:

  • InfiniBand and liquid cooling changes on Pitzer to prepare for the Pitzer expansion
  • Regular systems maintenance
  • Update OS on web nodes
  • openmpi/3.1.0-hpcx is removed from Pizer and Owens. See here for more information.

Due to the nature of the work, we will bring systems back to production in phases during this downtime. Pitzer cluster will be unavailable through noon on August 20 to allow for cooling changes for the Pitzer expansion. However, Pitzer login nodes will be available at the end of the normal downtime window. To stay up to date on system notices, follow @HPCNotices  on Twitter. As always, you can contact us at OSC Help
