Nearly 500 students have participated in OSC summer educational programs since the inception of Summer Institute in 1990 and that of Young Women's Summer Institute in 2000. In both cases, these talented high school students (SI) and middle school girls (YWSI) took advantage of the unique opportunity to live, learn and explore science and technology on the campus of The Ohio State University. Catch a blog post describing the evolution of Summer Institute, written by current SI Director Alan Chalker, also a 1991 SI alumnus and OSC's Director of Client Engineering.
This year, OSC staff spent countless hours reconnecting with SI alumni in order to invite them back for an OSC Summer educational program alumni reception, held following the regular SI closing ceremony. Nine alumni were able to make their way back to OSC for the event, and we hope to contact even more alumni in the coming year. We also plan to widen our search to include YWSI alumni, to establish an even stronger alumni organization.
If you are an alumnus who has yet to connect with the OSC alumni group, complete this form to let us know! Also, be sure to connect with the alumni group through the SI Facebook and YWSI Facebook pages, which update regularly with photos and information from the most recent camps, or the Summer Programs LinkedIn page.
We hope to leverage our alumni connections to foster support for future summer programs, through mentoring opportunities, brainstorming sessions, surveys, financial support, etc. If you are an alumnus who would like to explore ways to help support SI and YWSI, visit our Sponsorship page.
