Windows On The Future provides a forum in which academic institutions, research centers, corporate laboratories and government agencies can share knowledge, exchange ideas, and form networking relationships that will collectively benefit Ohio's higher education and industrial communities. This conference will focus on technology briefings by leading researchers in areas such as Internet engineering, networking, communications, and technology development.
Since 1987, OSC has been providing our clients services in four areas, or functions:
Supercomputing. OSC provides the computational power and storage that scientists need to meet their research goals. Whether researchers need to harness the incredible power of a parallel processor cluster to better understand deep space, a vector processor machine to do weather modeling, or a mid-size shared memory processor system to model the human heart, OSC has the hardware and software solutions to meet their needs.
Research. A staff of high performance computing and networking research experts maintain active research programs in HPC and Networking, Homeland Security and Defense, Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Life Sciences. Our goals are to lead science and engineering research efforts, assist researchers with custom needs and collaborate with regional, national and international researchers in groundbreaking initiatives.
Education. OSC has a national reputation for its training and education programs. Staff teach faculty and student researchers through scientific computing workshops, one-on-one classes, and web-based portal training. Ohio students gain exposure to the world of high performance computing and networking during our annual summer institutes for young women in middle school and for junior and senior high school students. And, the statewide, virtual Ralph Regula School of Computational Science coordinates computational science and engineering education activities for all levels of learning.
Cyberinfrastructure. The Ohio Supercomputer Center’s cyberinfrastructure and software development researchers provide the user community with various high performance computing software options. This variety enables researchers to select parallel computing languages they most prefer, and just as important, it creates a test bed for exploring these systems. By taking a holistic approach to generating efficient supercomputing applications for researchers, the Center’s cyberinfrastructure and software development research capitalizes on all the components within the cycle of innovation — development, experimentation, and analysis - and continuously improves the services provided.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – September 19, 2006 – A new school focusing on computational science plans to propel Ohio’s workforce to a new level of productivity in the knowledge economy.
The National Computational Science Alliance (NCSA) has awarded OSC $6,000 to fund an undergraduate researcher. The researcher will develop utilities and applications to support Access Grid user services.
Columbus, Ohio -- September 4, 2001 -- Troy Baer, OSC Systems Developer and Engineer, recently published the article, "Integrating a Linux Cluster into a Production High-Performance Computing Environment," in the July 2001 edition of the Linux Journal. Baer takes you on a journey that brings the "brain" home from SGI, and provides insight into installing and using the cluster.
Creates Ohio Broadband Council to Coordinate Network Efforts
COLUMBUS, Ohio — July 27, 2007 —Governor Ted Strickland today issued an executive order announcing the Broadband Ohio initiative to extend the reach of Ohio’s broadband resources, further Ohio’s leadership in network innovation and improve technology access for all citizens throughout the state.
Columbus, Ohio -- January 10, 2003 -- OSC's (Ohio Supercomputer Center) nationally recognized workshops return this winter, offering several new courses for both beginner and advanced computer users.
OSC regularly provides workshops about new computing techniques and hardware and software resources at no cost to users. Remote workshops are also held through OSC's Access Grid node, an advanced audio-visual communications tool that transmits over Internet2.

Columbus, Ohio (January 19, 2011) - Worried about her high fever and severe abdominal pain, a young couple rushed their baby daughter to the emergency department of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Physicians there found a lump in her belly, and, after examining X-rays and blood work, confirmed the parents’ worst fear: their 18-month-old little girl had neuroblastoma, a rare pediatric cancer that involves the adrenal glands.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – August 6, 2004 -- The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) has awarded a supercomputer cluster to Case Western Reserve University as part of OSC’s “Cluster Ohio” program. Delivered on June 28 to Case’s physics department, the cluster was part of a larger system divided among several institutions statewide.
Columbus, Ohio -- March 15, 1995 -- In mid-February, OSC Networking and MCI Telecommunications completed the installation and testing of OSC Networking's expanded gateway service to the Internet. The new service establishes connections between OSC Networking and internetMCI Direct Connect Access. As a result of this new service, OSC Networking, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, now maintains a total of 10.5Mbps total gateway throughput to the Internet through three different diverse paths.
