Terminology

The Ohio Supercomputer Center is a part of the Ohio Technology Consortium, a division of the Ohio Department of Higher Education, alongside OARnet and OhioLINK, as well as support units Shared Infrastructure (IT services) and Consortia Services (fiscal matters, communications, HR, events and facilities). The consortium delivers world-class technologies, information and expertise to provide Ohioans with a strong foundation for education, workforce development, scientific research and business innovation.

The Ohio Supercomputer Center is our preferred name on first reference and carries a definite article. The acronym OSC is acceptable on second reference and does not carry a definite article, i.e. "the Ohio Supercomputer Center" is correct whereas "the OSC" is incorrect. A common mistake is to use the word "Supercomputing" as in "the Ohio Supercomputing Center," which is incorrect.
