Temporal Bone Dissections Simulator Development Update

Dear Colleague:

I am excited to inform you that we are currently on schedule with our temporal bone dissections simulator development. You have previously expressed interest in enrolling your residents in a nationwide clinical trial to assess the use of the simulator in training otologic surgery.
If you are still interested, we are planning on having an investigator's meeting during the upcoming American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Foundation Annual Meeting in Toronto, Canada. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for **TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 19, 2006**** at ****5:30pm****, **the location is yet to be determined. At the meeting, we will demonstrate the current system, provide information on download for the software and recommendation for hardware as well as discuss the clinical trial execution. At this time, we will need you to proceed to our website and enter some additional information that will help us refine our clinical trial to begin in May of 2007 and aid you in obtaining IRB approval at your site.

1. Please direct you browser to:
http://www.osc.edu/research/Biomed/vtbone/study/index.htm

and click on "Survey 2: Information regarding your temporal bone course". This will take you to a short survey regarding your current practices in temporal bone training.

2. Most importantly, we will need you to get IRB approval from your
institution to conduct the study at your site. We have already obtained
approval from The Ohio State University through an expedited review and
have posted our information at:
http://www.osc.edu/research/Biomed/vtbone/study/index.htm

Click on "IRB Approved Protocol". This will take you to the IRB page. If
you click on the READ ME file on the IRB page, you will have access to
the PDF files of all forms and approvals from our site. You can then use
this as a model to make an application to your institution. It is
imperative that you have local IRB approval prior to moving forward with
the study at your institution. Any program that does not have approval
at their respective program will not be able to participate. Once you
have obtained IRB approval you can send a copy of the approval letter to
me at:
