BALE Interface Lab

OSC has a 400 sq. ft. Interface Lab. In addition to providing high performance graphic displays for both interactive and recorded presentations, the Interface Laboratory offers dexterous devices to precisely localize and track 3D digitization, user movements, morphometrics, and haptic (force reflecting) interaction with complex data. The Interface Lab also provides equipment for recording and generating various types of audio for both interaction and presentation.

Interface Lab Goals
The visualization and interface laboratory provides interfaceequipment and expertise to Ohio's researchers. Interface Laboratory goals are to:

Provide tools for investigating novel methods for simulating and analyzing complex multimodal data.
Create research and consultation environment for visualization and interface development.
Furnish a workspace for demonstrations, trials, and information exchange among researchers.
Maintain access to visualization and interface equipment and software that would otherwise be unavailable to many of Ohio's researchers.
Supply cost-shared access to hardcopy, video, and interactive interface equipment.

Play Room
The play room lab is a shared virtual environment where two or three individuals can freely move in a space (e.g., 20x20 ft) with tethered/wireless interface technology for robust visualization and interaction. This interaction may also include individuals at remote sites participating in the session in a reflected environment. Interaction will be intermittently passive and active, depending on the task and the individuals in the session. The term "play room" was chosen because the interactions are intuitive and exploratory, much like play.
