Since 1987, OSC has been providing our clients services in four areas, or functions:

Supercomputing. OSC provides the computational power and storage that scientists need to meet their research goals.  Whether researchers need to harness the incredible power of a parallel processor cluster to better understand deep space, a vector processor machine to do weather modeling, or a mid-size shared memory processor system to model the human heart, OSC has the hardware and software solutions to meet their needs.

Research. A staff of high performance computing and networking research experts maintain active research programs in HPC and Networking, Homeland Security and Defense, Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Life Sciences. Our goals are to lead science and engineering research efforts, assist researchers with custom needs and collaborate with regional, national and international researchers in groundbreaking initiatives.

Education. OSC has a national reputation for its training and education programs. Staff teach faculty and student researchers through scientific computing workshops, one-on-one classes, and web-based portal training. Ohio students gain exposure to the world of high performance computing and networking during our annual summer institutes for young women in middle school and for junior and senior high school students. And, the statewide, virtual Ralph Regula School of Computational Science coordinates computational science and engineering education activities for all levels of learning.

Cyberinfrastructure. The Ohio Supercomputer Center’s cyberinfrastructure and software development researchers provide the user community with various high performance computing software options. This variety enables researchers to select parallel computing languages they most prefer, and just as important, it creates a test bed for exploring these systems. By taking a holistic approach to generating efficient supercomputing applications for researchers, the Center’s cyberinfrastructure and software development research capitalizes on all the components within the cycle of innovation — development, experimentation, and analysis - and continuously improves the services provided.

Ohio Supercomputer Center Calls for Proposals for Statewide Computational Science Courses

Columbus, Ohio -- August 3, 1999 -- The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) is looking for Ohio faculty interested in using distance learning technologies to bring computational science courses to campuses across the state.

OSC, a statewide resource for high performance technology, recently received funding from the Ohio Board of Regents to assist the state in developing computational science expertise at its public universities. OSC will fund computational science courses from various institutions that can be taught on multiple campuses.

Path Finding: Behavior of Artificial Neural Network

Abstract

To travel from one location to another is a common task for most human beings. Actually creating a robot to find a path to the destination while avoiding obstacles is another task. The behavior of an artificial neural network is synthesized mimicking the decisions leading to a path. a two-layer network using a simplified model of a biological network (i.e. brain is used).

OSC's Bill Yang Helps Unveil FBI Computer Security Initiative

Columbus, Ohio -- January 5, 2001 -- Bill Yang, Systems Specialist at OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center), attended a joint press conference in Washington D.C. on January 5, 2001 to officially unveil InfraGard, a cooperative venture he helped create among the National Infrastructure Protection Center, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and hundreds of partners around the country.

OSC Announces Deadlines for Summer Programs

Columbus, OH - April 4, 2005 --The Young Women's Summer Institute (YWSI) deadline has been extended to April 15. This is also the announced deadline for OSC's Summer Institute (SI).

Sponsored by the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) and Kent State University, YWSI is a weeklong program for Ohio's middle-school girls. It is designed to promote computer, math, and science skills as well as provide hands-on learning.

Ohio Supercomputer Center and NIMBIS to collaborate to fill computation gap within company supply chains

Columbus, Ohio – September 22, 2008 – Ohio Supercomputer Center officials today announced that the Center has entered into an agreement with Nimbis Services Inc. to connect regional industry supply chains to OSC’s Blue Collar Computing computational and expertise resources.

OSC Named to Congressional Advisory Committee

Supercomputer Center to Advise Legislature on Issues Concerning Net

Columbus, Ohio -- April 1, 1999 -- The Ohio Supercomputer Center recently was appointed to the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee, which provides guidance to more than 100 Senators and Representatives who are examining Internet-related policy issues before Congress. OSC is the only Ohio higher education entity serving on the Committee.

Ohio Supercomputer Center Looking For High Tech High School Students

Columbus, Ohio -- February 8, 1994 -- As a part of The Ohio State University Summer Institute, fifteen students will have the chance to work with Ohio's supercomputer - a computer normally reserved for professional scientists and engineers! Summer Institute attracts gifted and talented students to Columbus each summer for two weeks of exciting and challenging learning.
