Ohio Supercomputer Center Training Courses Contribute to Efforts to Strengthen National Security

Columbus, OH – July 12, 2006 – The Ohio Supercomputer Center’s (OSC) internationally-recognized training expertise will now be used to help reduce vulnerability in our nation’s information system.

Recently, The Ohio State University (OSU) was designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As part of OSU’s designation, OSC will provide NSA-certified training and participate as a member of OSU’s Consortium for IAE.

OSC To Present Overview Workshop at Wittenberg University

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- January 16, 2004 -- On January 27, the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) will present a workshop at Wittenberg University entitled, “High Performance Computing at OSC: An Overview.”

The lecture will be held in the BDK Science Center’s Bailey Auditorium from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. There is no charge to attend, and members from the community, area businesses, and higher education institutions are invited to participate.

Sun Solaris Training Class Proves Successful

A Sun Solaris training class, held at OSC on December 11, was a great opportunity for users to learn how to use the system environments more effectively for their research. Participants included Wilberforce University, OSU Medical Center, NCR, Lucent Technologies, Nationwide, Huntington Bank, and Chemical Abstracts.

"This was a great way to experiment with some new operating system features,” said Kevin Wohlever, OSC Senior High Performance Computing Systems Specialist. “It will definitely help as we prepare for supporting some storage and disaster recovery projects here at OSC."

Computational Science Workshop Draws Professors From Across the Nation, Puerto Rico

COLUMBUS, Ohio — June 13, 2007 -- Academia and businesses increasingly are using computational science to improve discovery methods and results. That’s why, to better prepare their students, 19 professors from the throughout the United States and Puerto Rico are attending a weeklong workshop at the Ohio Supercomputer Center that will teach them how to integrate the discipline into their undergraduate curriculums.

Ohio Supercomputer Center Offers MPI Workshop at Miami University

If you have research projects requiring large amounts of memory and/or CPU power, this upcoming workshop at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, is for you.

Held on May 17 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the “Parallel Programming with MPI” workshop will teach you how to leverage multiple processors to advance your science. This course, sponsored by Miami University and the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), is geared toward those with C or Fortran programming language experience. It will be held in the University’s Gaskill Hall, room 201.

National Science Foundation Strengthens Commitment to Education, Outreach, and Diversity through EPIC Collaboration

Columbus, OH - April 28, 2005 - The National Science Foundation (NSF) announced the formation of a new collaboration, supported through the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate, to construct a human capacity building infrastructure that extends the cyberinfrastructure community to include a much larger number of talented and diverse people.
