Building a supercomputer: The Ascend Cluster

Ohio Supercomputer Center launches GPU cluster “Ascend” for high performance computing work

Transcript:

In the fall of 2022 in Columbus, Ohio engineers installed a new high-performance Computing cluster at the Ohio Supercomputer Center. In honor of Ohio's pioneering history in aviation and aerospace, the newest cluster is named Ascend.

Assembled over a span of three months, this cutting-edge machine is comprised of Dell servers, packed with 48 AMD CPUs and 96 Nvidia GPUs interconnected at 200 gigabits per second.

Altogether the 2304 cores in the Ascend cluster triple osc's capacity for artificial intelligence machine learning modeling and simulation and data analytics.

The Ohio Supercomputer Center's Ascend cluster will take Ohio's academic research and industrial discovery to incredible new heights.
