Peter Carswell

Client and Technology Support Engineer

Peter Carswell serves as a client and technology support engineer at the Ohio Supercomputer Center. With expertise in image processing, 3-D modeling, rendering and animation, programming and mathematical algorithms, Carswell assists OSC clients with research visualizations.

Carswell began his career with Cranston/Csuri Productions, Inc., creating animations for clients in the television broadcasting industry, such as the Dow Scrubbing Bubbles commercial, the educational show “For All Practical Purposes,” and bumpers, or visual breaks between the game and commercials, for Super Bowl XVIII.

Later, he worked at OSC as part of the team that created one of the first scientific visualization software toolkits to support a multi-platform, data-flow model. He also worked at the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design at The Ohio State University, where he served as a researcher, teacher and technical supervisor of the Motion Capture Lab.

In 2002, Carswell returned to OSC, where he now teaches high performance computing workshops, including visualization courses for Summer Institute. The two-week summer camp provides high school freshmen and sophomores firsthand experience in high performance computing and networking. Using Virtual Reality Modeling Language, along with motion capture, participants are able to design a 3-D gaming environment.

Carswell earned a bachelor’s of science degree in math education from The Ohio State University in 1974.
