On August 28, 1995, Larry L. Buell was appointed Acting Director of OSC Networking of the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC). In this position, Buell is responsible for the day-to-day operations of OSC Networking. Buell succeeds Alison A. Brown and Jeffrey Ritter, who served as Director and Acting Director, respectively.
OSC Networking serves as the on-ramp to the Internet to nearly one-half million Ohio college students, as well as government agencies; and hundreds of libraries, schools, and businesses. OSC Networking offers complete capabilities to assist industry and academic members in evaluating, selecting, and installing appropriate solutions for remaining at the forefront of the Information Superhighway.
Buell has a 30+ year history in the computing field including the military and higher education. OSC Director Charlie Bender comments, "Larry brings to the job many years of practical experience and is very familiar with the needs and expectations of OSC Networking's members."
Buell earned a bachelor's degree in social science from Middle Tennessee State University, and a master's in business management from the University of Arkansas. "I'm very proud to be associated with OSC Networking," Buell said. "I look forward to carrying out OSC Networking's mission of providing the best, highest quality, and most reliable Internet services."
Prior to his appointment as Acting Director of OSC Networking, in 1988 Buell was selected as assistant vice president of University Systems - the administrative data processing center for The Ohio State University. From 1980 to 1988, Buell was director of computing and learning services at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Buell, a native of Camden, Ohio, lives in Worthington with his wife, Jane.
