CALL TO PARTICIPATE Collaboration and Visualization Over the Network

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Nov 10, 1997) —

WHAT: The Ohio Supercomputer Center and Wright State University are co-sponsoring a one-day conference on November 10, 1997 on the topics of network applications for collaboration, visualization, and virtual reality.

WHY: The purpose of the session is to assemble representatives from Ohio higher education institutions and industry to share ideas on research in these areas and to facilitate the formation of working groups that could pursue opportunities for network experiments using the current infrastructure and through possible funded research.

WHO: Faculty, technical staff, and industry personnel with interests in these areas are expected to attend.

WHEN: November 10, 1997 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

WHERE: Wright State University in Dayton. Registrants will be sent a confirmation and map to the site by regular mail.

Ohio moves toward the Future!

Internet 2 and other proposed high bandwidth networks 2 are being developed with the expectation of a demand for network capacity to undertake many of these applications. Collaboration through shared instrumentation, the storage and retrieval of large databases, the sharing of clinical medical information along with video conferencing, and the creation of shared, virtual environments for engineering, design, or clinical evaluation are all examples of areas where experiments are on-going.

This workshop will review some of these potentials and then create interest groups by major subject area. A goal of the workshop is to form working groups of researchers, industry partners, and technical staff that can pursue funding opportunities by taking advantage of the shared expertise of our academic institutions.
