A downtime for OSC HPC systems is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The downtime will affect the Pitzer, Cardinal and Ascend Clusters, web portals, the state-wide licenses and HPC file servers. MyOSC (the client portal) will be available during the downtime.
In preparation for the downtime, the batch scheduler will not start jobs that cannot be completed before 7 a.m., May 12. Jobs that are not started on clusters will be held until after the downtime and then started once the system is returned to production status.
Highlights of the downtime activities include:
- System-wide upgrade to RHEL 9.6 on all clusters
- Change of the default MVAPICH module to mvapich/4.1. See: https://www.osc.edu/resources/technical_support/hpc_changelog/2026/defau...
- Reduce the per-project and per-user GPU limits on Cardinal from 48 GPUs to 24 GPUs.
- Configuration updates to project and scratch file system services
- Network routing changes
- OS and firmware updates on critical infrastructure
If you are in need of any assistance, please open a support ticket in the OSC Service Center.
