The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) will introduce an early access program on Tuesday, Nov. 3, for Open OnDemand Support Program subscribers to facilitate immediate deployment of software releases that can benefit research computing users across the globe.
Open OnDemand is an open-source web portal developed and run by OSC and supported by contributors. The portal has enabled 2,100 locations to provide easy, browser-based access to their high performance computing (HPC) resources, giving students, researchers, and industry professionals new opportunities for working and learning.
Benefits of the Open OnDemand Support Program subscription
The Open OnDemand Support Program is a subscription program that gives organizations access to expert consulting and technical support along with dedicated resources designed to help institutions implement, customize, and maintain their deployment of Open OnDemand.
Support Program subscribers have access to special office hours to directly consult with the Open OnDemand team and submit technical issues to receive fast, expert responses. Additionally, subscribers receive invitations to special events at major conferences such as Practice and Experience in Advanced Research Computing (PEARC) and SC. They also can join the Open OnDemand advisory group meeting to help shape the future of the platform.
Subscribing to the Support Program also helps maintain the long-term viability of Open OnDemand. The financial support from subscribers will help ensure that Open OnDemand will remain an effective resource for making HPC accessible to students, educators, and researchers around the world.
What does the new early access program provide for subscribers?
During the forthcoming early access period, Support Program subscribers will be able to download new releases through a password protected webpage before Open OnDemand makes them available to the larger user community. Subscribers can access staging and nightly repositories of the software packages built by the OSC and Open OnDemand team.
New releases will be available to the user community three to five weeks after the early access window. As part of this change, packages will no longer be uploaded to the “latest” or “build” repository.
Open OnDemand will provide updates about new release availability through its user community channels such as Discourse.
How to gain a support subscription for your organization
Open OnDemand encourages organizations that want early access to platform updates, one-on-one support, special office hours, access to experts, and conference support to sign up for the Support Program.
