2021 Virtual Young Women's Summer Institute

Explore the amazing world of STEM and learn how scientists collect and analyze data to address real-world problems in this daily virtual camp. Examine the health of your local watershed and streams through activities like games and virtual field trips that vividly bring to life key concepts in computing, math, science and engineering.

This program is designed for young women in 6th and 7th grade (in the 2020-2021 school year).

Registration

Registration has closed for the 2021 Virtual YWSI event. Please consider attending YWSI or Summer Institute in person next summer.

Cost

No cost to attend the program. Activities require additional materials such as vinegar, baking soda and filter paper which may need to be purchased to follow along at home. See Required Materials below for more details.

Required materials

Tuesday: "Make a watershed" activity

  • 3 pieces of letter-sized paper
  • water-based markers
  • tape
  • cookie sheet
  • spray bottle with tap water

Thursday: Water testing activity

  • Boiled, chopped red cabbage
  • Container (with a lid)
  • White filter paper (coffee filters)
  • Scissors
  • Vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Lemon juice
  • Water sample from tap (to test)
