In preparation for the deployment of the Dell/Intel Owens Cluster in late summer, OSC would like to invite members of the client community to apply to be a part of the Owens Early User Program. Clients selected to participate would get access to Owens hardware in advance of the final public deployment, and be able to run jobs at no charge. In exchange, OSC would ask these users to work closely with our staff to identify problems in the environment.
Good candidates are:
- Relatively experienced users (able to write batch scripts for new hardware without difficulty)
- Willing to provide feedback to OSC staff
- Tolerant of failed jobs, disruptions to work, and zero notice outages. (We may have to frequently kill jobs or disrupt scheduling.)
- Already run fairly efficiently on existing hardware.
- Willing to curtail their use of other platforms in OSC's compute service offering during the Early User period.
- Active in SUG or otherwise supportive of OSC.
- Representative of the diversity of our clients. (We would like to include differing types of workload and include universities from across the state, but the breadth of our selection will depend heavily on limits of staff time to install necessary software.)
To apply, please complete the form below. Applications will be accepted until May 20th. We cannot guarantee that everyone who applies will be a part of the program; however we plan to open the system up to all OSC clients as soon as it is stable.
You can review the hardware specifications for Owens here. Please note that the Nvidia Pascal GPUs will not be available during the Owens Early User Program. We have not yet purchased the GPUs, which we expect will be purchased and installed at a later date in 2016.
