C18 Client Input

OSC will procure a new High Performance Computing (HPC) system. The new HPC system will provide increased computational capacity as measured by core count, memory bandwidth, memory per core, high-speed network performance, peak GPU performance, and peak processor performance. The system will replace the Oakley cluster, and will complement the capabilities of the Ruby, and Owens clusters.

While there are constraints on what can be done with the C18 cluster, we want to collect client input to help us make the best choice within those constraints to serve client needs. We would also like to collect some information about projected needs that could be reflected in our next large cluster acquisition after C18. For more background information, please refer to the document emailed to you.

Your feedback about the C18 acquisition. Do we need more GPU nodes? More GPUs per node? More large memory nodes? What changes would you require to a system that looks like Owens to be more productive?
What longer-term needs do you anticipate? What kind of usage patterns do you see coming in future years that OSC needs to support? What sort of resources or services would you need in a future cluster acquisition that do not look like things OSC already does?
