A team of technology experts from OARnet has won the "Outstanding Contribution to Technological Infrastructure" award presented by the American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC) at a ceremony in New Orleans on April 27. |
The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC)announced today that Pankaj Shah has been chosen as its new OARnet Director. Shah will officially assume the directorship on March 7, 2005.
"We are very excited that we will have a person of Pankaj Shah's stature and talent on our team," said Stan Ahalt, OSC Executive Director. "Pankaj has the skills, background, and organizational capabilities that are exactly what we need for OARnet's future."

Platform Lab received and installed an important contribution from Sun Microsystems, Inc. as the lab opened its doors for operation. The contribution includes four enterprise-level Sun 220R dual processor systems, each with two gigabytes of memory, a pair of Sun Netra web application servers, and significant disk storage capacity. These systems provide mid-range enterprise-level computing capacity and are available to users of the new facility. The estimated value of the contribution is in excess of $100,000. |
Two senior directors of the Ohio Supercomputer Center have been appointed to leadership positions as interim co-directors of the statewide technology organization located on the West Campus of The Ohio State University.
A new Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) advisory council has been formed to provide direct input into OSC and OSC Networking operations.
The new advisory group consists of state intra-university council (IUC) Chief Information Officers (CIO). The OSC Information and Research Officers Advisory Council will actively participate in long-range strategic planning, give technology leadership and management advice, and have the authority to establish subcommittees for specific tasks.
Steven I. Gordon, interim co-executive director of the Ohio Supercomputer Center, has been honored by the American Institute of Certified Planners with the announcement of his selection to its College of Fellows.
The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) announced the election of new officers for its Statewide Users Group (SUG).
At its October 2004 meeting, OSC’s SUG elected Dr. Austin Melton, of Kent State University (KSU), to the position of Chair and Robert Marcus, of Central State University, to the Vice-Chair position. Dr. Christopher Hadad, from The Ohio State University (OSU) Chemistry Department was appointed Chair of the SUG Allocations Committee.
Since opening its offices in March 2004, Ohio Supercomputer Center-Springfield (OSC-Springfield) has filled eight of its nine projected positions, including senior and junior networking researchers and systems specialists.
According to Project Director Kevin Wohlever, OSC-Springfield will fill 12 positions by year-end, totaling 30 jobs by the end of 2005.
On October 7, three new Regents will be sworn in at the Ohio Board of Regents' monthly meeting at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus. The Ohio Board of Regents is an 11-member public board created in 1963 by the General Assembly to provide higher education policy advice to the Governor and General Assembly.
The OBOR also helps develop strategy involving Ohio's public and independent colleges and universities, advocates for and manages state funds, and coordinates and implements state higher education policies. OSC is a technology initiative of the Ohio Board of Regents.
