Staff members of the Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet) are sharing their valuable expertise with participants at the Internet2 Spring Member Meeting, April 27-29, 2009, in Arlington, Va.
OSC-Springfield (OSC-S) has implemented a network route change, advancing from a T1 to a new DS3 line. Network bandwidth has dramatically increased from 1.54Mbps to 45Mbps, a connection that is 30 times faster than the previous network.
OARnet, OSC's networking division, completed this installation to make OSC-S supercomputers accessible to the U.S. Department of Energy, Department of Defense research laboratories, colleges, universities and area businesses.
Ohio boldly staked its claim today as a national leader in networking and computing technologies with the official launch of the Third Frontier Network, the most advanced statewide, fiber-optic network for education, research and economic development.
Ohio’s Third Frontier Network (TFN), the nation’s most advanced research network, will assist the Great Lakes Educational Consortium for Homeland Security Training in regional first-response and anti-terrorism efforts. TFN initiatives that strengthen northwest Ohio’s defense efforts were highlighted today at Owens Community College.
Ohio is positioned to become a national leader in networking and computing technologies with the deployment of the country’s first statewide fiber optic network for education and research. Called the Third Frontier Network, this new technology initiative of the Ohio Board of Regents is operated by OARnet, the Internet services division of the Ohio Supercomputer Center.
Ohio will soon have some high-tech bragging rights when the Third Frontier Network (TFN) is turned on this spring. After nearly two years of development, nearly 100 institutions of higher education and thousands of primary and secondary schools throughout the state will have access to the nation's most advanced statewide education and research network.
Ohio’s academic and industrial researchers now can share some of the state’s most valuable and expensive scientific instruments via the Internet, thanks to cyberinfrastructure tools developed by engineers and researchers at the Ohio Supercomputer Center.
Ohio students, faculty, and researchers will no longer have to look out-of-state for access to the most advanced nationwide network in the United States, thanks to a project in Cleveland that connects Ohio’s research and education network – OSCnet – to the new Internet2 Network.
