OSC and Open OnDemand at PEARC24

The Ohio Supercomputer Center and Open OnDemand are excited for the Practice and Experience in Advanced Research Computing (PEARC) conference series 2024 in Providence, Rhode Island.

Our extensive history at PEARC continues this year with our exhibitor table and a full slate of sessions and showcases, detailed below. All times are given in Eastern Daylight Time, local time for Providence.

Tutorial: Open OnDemand Overview, Customization, and App Development
Location: Ballroom B

Developed by the Ohio Supercomputer Center and funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, Open OnDemand (openondemand.org) is an open-source portal that provides web-based access to high-performance computing (HPC) services. The Open OnDemand development team will present an overview, demonstrate features, explore customization options, and discuss the development roadmap, engaging with participants to address their specific needs and communities. Presenters include Alan Chalker, Jeff Ohrstrom, Travis Ravert and Julie Ma.

Paper: Stable Diffusion in the Classroom: Deploying interactive GPU-enabled ML workloads with Open OnDemand and Kubernetes

Evan Jaffe presents OSC's paper exploring the deployment of Stable Diffusion instances in educational settings, particularly focusing on addressing resource allocation challenges in the context of interactive GPU-enabled machine learning (ML) workloads.

Alan Chalker presents a paper describing advances to the Open OnDemand platform since it was publicly released to the research computing world in 2017, the community that has developed around it and our plans to leverage these to build an ecosystem to ensure future sustainability of this popular platform.

Alan Chalker, Julie Ma and Emily Moffat Sadeghi host this BoF, meant to provide a forum for the Open OnDemand (OOD) community to exchange experiences and best practices, as well as to engage with the project development team.

Birds of a Feather: Interactive computing for Generative AI in university research computing centers
Location: Room 553 A&B
Discus the present and future of interactive research computing, with a focus on emerging generative AI applications. The session will aim to share experiences, best practices, and emerging technologies that can meet the growing needs for computational resources, data management, and user-friendly interfaces. Evan Jaffe will share about OSC's current approach and vision for interactive computing and generative AI, and then stimulate dialog and discussion among the audience.

Birds of a Feather: Launching the ICICLE User Group (iUG)
Location: Ballroom B
Karen Tomko represents OSC during this BoF session to establish the ICICLE User Group (iUG), dedicated to ICICLE stack development. iUG, an outreach extension of the NSF AI Institute ICICLE, aims to democratize AI by making it accessible to everyone. During the BoF, ICICLE leaders will introduce iUG and outline its purpose and charter.
