Altair Engineering and OSC Make A Connection

Columbus, Ohio -- June 19, 2002 -- OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) announces a new statewide software licensing partnership with Altair Engineering, a leading developer of engineering software.

OSC has purchased a statewide license for the Altair Hyperworks suite of applications to be used during the next four years to aid the computational structural mechanics community. The suite includes HyperMesh, HyperGraph, MotionView, OptiStruct, HyperView, HyperStudy, and HyperForm. This toolbox of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software will allow researchers to model, simulate, optimize, and visualize advanced engineering systems in a virtual environment.

Each year of the contract, Altair will provide an introductory training class on the Hypermesh, OptiStruct, and HyperView packages at OSC. Altair staff training gives OSC users an advantage of learning the software from experts. Technical support will be managed through the current OSC technical support system, and an OSC support staff member will have contact with Altair's technical support system.

OSC provides hardware and software resources to support major computational research programs in Ohio. In 2000, OSC received funding from the Ohio Board of Regents to acquire statewide licenses for software that will facilitate research. This strategic alliance with software companies promotes the use of high quality, timesaving software components for individual academic departments and research labs.

"OSC is building a suite of software development and applications tools under a statewide software licensing program," said Al Stutz, OSC Associate Director. "Through this program, faculty obtain access to excellent software while software vendors have connection to a much larger set of faculty researchers."

Dr. Robert Yancey, Managing Director of the Ohio Valley Region for Altair, will manage the OSC account. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering and has extensive experience in new business development, project management, R&D, and applications engineering.

"We look forward to our partnership with OSC. We continually look for ways to become more involved in educating tomorrow's engineers, and this partnership will be a great opportunity to promote computer-aided engineering and optimization within Ohio's engineering education community," said Yancey.
