OSC's HPC Division has announced that computing systems have been awarded to nine Ohio higher education institutions. Thirty-four researchers submitted proposals in the competition for academic cluster computers. In addition to the processing units, OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) will provide onsite maintenance, software, training, and system administration advice.

The Cluster Ohio Project, an initiative of OSC, the Ohio Board of Regents, and the OSC Statewide Users Group, is an effort to encourage faculty to build local computing clusters.

 Ohio businesses facing the challenges of keeping pace with constantly changing technology will soon have a solution. With the financial support of the Ohio Technology Action Fund and other organizations, Platform Lab, a software testing and development facility, has announced that advanced scheduling is available to organizations and businesses.

The Air Force Research Laboratory announced today that the University of Hawai'i (UH) has been awarded the contract to operate and manage the Maui Supercomputing Center, located at the Maui Research and Technology Park in Kihei. The contract, which will begin October 1, 2001, may be extended for up to 10 years and has a potential value of $181 million. This is the largest single contract award in the history of the University of Hawai'i.

The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Friday that a $108 million contract has been awarded to OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center), Mississippi State University (MSU) and the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC).

OSC competed nationally in conjunction with the other two centers for the contract. This award to support the High Performance Computing Modernization Program is one of the largest in Defense Department history to further academic research and training.

What: OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) will announce details of its selection as a nationally recognized Sun Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing Environments (COE-HPCE).

Sun Microsystems partnership with OSC will strengthen Ohio's research and technology infrastructure, adding to the state's intellectual and economic competitiveness.

OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) has announced that 15 middle school girls have been selected to participate in its Young Women's Summer Institute (YWSI).

This is OSC's second year offering the YWSI Program. YWSI is specially designed for Ohio's middle school girls as a response to the low participation of women in the fields of science and technology. YWSI gives the girls an opportunity to work with OSC's most advanced supercomputers with the aid and instruction of top professionals.

 

"Access to the fast lanes of the networked world is an important asset for the state's technology base," said Frank Samuel, Science and Technology Advisor to Ohio Governor Taft. Under funding from the Ohio Department of Development Technology Innovation Division, Ohio's Broadband Map will be accessible on-line in various formats, including overlays of key population and industry data. The web-enabled version of the map is expected to be available in July 2001, through the www.ecom-ohio.org site.

LabBook, Inc., and OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) announced today that they have entered into an agreement that will provide LabBook’s XML-Life Sciences Solution to Ohio’s academic community. Terms and financing of the agreement were not disclosed.
