Officials dedicate OSC’s newest, most powerful supercomputer

J.C. “Jesse” Owens possessed both elite speed and raw power, which he honed and blended on his way to winning four Olympic gold medals in 1936.

Those impressive traits—elite speed and raw power—now are shared by the newest and most powerful supercomputer in the history of the Ohio Supercomputer Center, a system which, appropriately, is named for the late Ohio-raised sprinter.

OSC researcher wins grant to build digital bridge with Brazil

Marcio Faerman, a scientific research manager at the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), recently received a $10,000 grant from a joint partnership between The Ohio State University and the Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).

Faerman’s research, one of 24 projects awarded under this new program, focuses on the beginning stages of building a digital bridge for research collaboration between OSU and the Sao Paulo campuses. Ohio State and FAPESP are each contributing $700,000 to begin the five-year program to support research and innovation.

OSC Networking to Host Worldwide Testing of New Video Conferencing Technology Today

More than 80 national and international research institutions and networking organizations are participating in Megaconference, the world's largest H.323 Internet video conference, being held today in Seattle. Megaconference runs in conjunction with the Fall Internet2 Meeting, taking place today through Wednesday. The Megaconference is a permanent, continuous multipoint H.323 Internet video conference organized and supported by the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) located in Columbus.

OSC Supercomputers, Third Frontier Network to Power Megaconference Jr

 

More than 200 school districts and thousands of students will participate May 19th in Megaconference Junior, a project designed to give students in elementary and secondary schools across the country and around the world the opportunity to communicate, collaborate and contribute to each other's learning experiences in real time, using advanced multi-point Internet videoconferencing technology. Megaconference Jr will run Thursday May 19, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sinclair's IT Solutions Wins EDUCAUSE Award

Sinclair Community College’s online student success planning project has been named one of two recipients of the EDUCAUSE Award for Excellence in Information Technology Solutions.

EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. Membership is open to institutions of higher education, corporations serving the higher education information technology market, and other related associations and organizations.
