The National Science Foundation (NSF) announced the formation of a new collaboration, supported through the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate, to construct a human capacity building infrastructure that extends the cyberinfrastructure community to include a much larger number of talented and diverse people.
Michael Tallhamer, a graduate student at Cleveland State University’s Department of Chemistry and Physics, received the OSC Graduate Conference Student Achievement Award during OSC’s Graduate Student Workshop and Conference held on August 8 and 9.
OSC's (Ohio Supercomputer Center) nationally recognized workshops return this winter, offering several new courses for both beginner and advanced computer users.
OSC regularly provides workshops about new computing techniques and hardware and software resources at no cost to users. Remote workshops are also held through OSC's Access Grid node, an advanced audio-visual communications tool that transmits over Internet2.
Students participating in a program starting July 14 at the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) in Columbus will use computers similar to the one that Garry Kasparov lost a chess match to earlier this year.
The 16 students will use the Center's high end computing and networking resources to work on problems not unlike those that chemists, physicists, and engineers try to solve. The Chillicothe Telephone Company will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 1995. To celebrate this milestone, the company has decided to present a gift to the communities it serves. The company has agreed to make available, at no cost, the use of advanced, broad band fiber optic telecommunications facilities to connect high schools for educational purposes.
On April 19-20 and May 3-4, the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) will present a Basic UNIX and Intermediate UNIX workshop, respectively, at Clark State Community College in Springfield, Ohio. There is no charge to attend, and members from the community, area businesses, and higher education institutions are invited.
Austin Kochs, a third-year student at The Metro Early College High School, delivered a final presentation last week on his internship experiences at the Ohio Supercomputer Center during the winter quarter.

The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) and The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine (OSU) are designing a groundbreaking virtual surgical training program using software and hardware developed at OSC. The study, officially called “Simulation Technology in Veterinary Education: Research and Surgical Training,” began in January 2007 and will last for about eight months.
