Summer Educational Programs at OSC

Summer Institute

SI logoSummer Institute is two-week summer camp for Ohio's brightest high school students entering their sophomore, juniors or senior year. Participants experience the dynamic fields of high performance computing and network firsthand. Ohio Supercomputer Center employs a faculty of experts in high performance computing (HPC), networking, engineering and the sciences to teach students computing fundamentals, such as programming language, parallel processing techniques and visualization toolkits. SI is sponsored by the Ohio Supercomputer Center and The Ohio State University.

Young Women's Summer InstituteYWSI logo

Young Women’s Summer Institute (YWSI) is a week-long program for middle-school girls in Ohio, sponsored by Ohio Supercomputer Center. YWSI is designed to promote computer, math, science and engineering skills, as well as to provide hands-on experiences. YWSI helps girls develop an interest in these subjects by allowing them to work on a practical, interesting scientific problem using the latest computer technology.

Alumni Connections

Nearly 500 students have participated in OSC summer educational programs since the inception of Summer Institute in 1990 and that of Young Women's Summer Institute in 2000. In both cases, these talented high school students (SI) and middle school girls (YWSI) took advantage of the unique opportunity to live, learn and explore science and technology on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Sponsorship Opportunities

As a non-profit organization, OSC hosts Young Women's Summer Institute and Summer Institute with no tuition or material costs to the students. Students are responsible for housing and some meals in The Ohio State University dormitories, but OSC will assist with these costs when needed. Your much-needed sponsorship will support the pipeline for exceptional young talent that will be hitting the job market in a few years.
